Kobe, Melo, James … Who gets the ball in crunch time?

Abbott wrote a piercing critique on the notion that Kobe Bryant is the ‘most best’ clutch player in the NBA today.  While he backs it up with hard data, do you agree with him?  Further, if you could have anyone in the NBA leading your team during ‘crunch time’ who ya got?

The truth about Kobe Bryant?

Not being ignorant, just stubborn … give me 24.

    HEDO TURKOGLU!

Went with Melo, arguably the best scorer in the league. Stats show that this doesn’t change during crunch time.

    Gimme Monta Ellis!

Really though, I think all of the players on that list are capable of handling a clutch shot in a clutch moment. They’re the best in the game, that’s what puts them in their own category.

I think Kobe’s been doing it for a long time now, being almost a 14 yr veteran, so he’s got many moments of regular season and postseason shine where he’s lifted his team. That, plus winning 5 championships in the process. Something that’s really impressive is that he’s been able to play at the same level for the better half of his career. In other words, it’s hard to say that Kobe is still not in his prime – I think he most definitely is.

Rudy Gay is pretty lethal when the game is close…

    Over LBJ – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjhYC5b9ADo

vs the Raptors last week – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK7lIjFsGvg (even the fan that is taking the footage recognizes that Rudy Gay shouldn’t have the ball when the game is on the line). It’s more or less the same shot he hit over LBJ.

While we’re on this Rudy Gay tip, I suggest that you vote for him to go to the All-Star Game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4hMBvsGgn0
    Along with Kevin Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2OkK2jupU8
